This lecture series, delivered by Ostad Alireza Panahian in July 2024 (concurrent with the days of Muharram 1446/2024) at Hey'at Misagh ba Shohada (Imam Sadiq University), is regarded as one of the most profound and strategic discourses in the fields of the sociology of religion, Islamic political thought, and the pathology of intellectual currents.
The core focus of these sessions is to trace the roots of one of the most insidious and dangerous plagues threatening religious life: "dogmatic ossification" (Tahajjor). Contrary to the common misconception that dogmatism is a relic of the past or confined solely to the ignorant, this series demonstrates that ossified dogmatism is an ever-present peril for believers, the intellectual elite, and truth-seeking movements—and ironically, those who are most actively engaged with religious knowledge are often at the greatest risk of succumbing to it.
Drawing upon the noble verses of the Holy Qur'an (particularly concepts such as the "hardening of the hearts of believers who witnessed miracles" and "conceited exultation"), Ostad Panahian warns that dogmatism is not necessarily synonymous with a lack of faith; rather, it is a form of intellectual stagnation, rigid dogmatism, blindness to the demands of time, and absolute self-righteousness that detaches religion from its fluid, dynamic, and transformative essence.
