Imam Sadiq (a.s.) says: “Al-Mu’minu la yamdi ‘alayhi arba’una laylatan illa ‘arada lahu amrun yahzunuhu wa yatadhakkaru bihi”; he says that forty days do not pass for a believer without an unpleasant event occurring that saddens his heart and makes him feel down, so that this sorrow draws his attention back to God.
When Friday sunset arrives, some people sigh and say, "Ugh! It’s Friday evening again, and one feels so heavy-hearted." Well, this heavy-heartedness has a purpose! You ought to make use of this sorrow, not run away from it. If someone feels a pang of sorrow on Friday evening, they should actually thank God.
On Friday evening, one reflects: "Another week is over. So, what’s next? A new week is about to begin. And then what? How long do you want to keep going down this path? How long do you want to keep distracting yourself?" Perhaps during the quiet sorrow of a Friday sunset, a person might suddenly realize the true philosophy of their life. They might suddenly realign their goals and change their direction in life. In that very heavy-heartedness of Friday evening, one might suddenly come to understand that nothing in this world truly avails them except Imam al-Zaman (may our souls be sacrificed for him).
Whenever you experience a low mood, feeling alienated or lonely, why withdraw into yourself? Why complain about others? Go knock on God's door and say: "O God, I have no one but You." Seize this opportunity!
